CREDENTIALS
- At Phlox, our goal is for every photographer to earn and carry national press credentials from organizations such as MaxPreps, ScoreBook Live, USA Wrestling, and/or others.
- Every school has different requirements for credentials. Because Phlox is not a media organization, we cannot secure credentials as accredited media. However, we are committed to helping you learn the skills and earn the qualifications necessary to obtain the press credentials you desire.
- Some venues may allow a credentialed photographer to assign an assistant, granting them a pass to assist a primary photographer.
- Finally, DO NOT VIOLATE THE VENUE’S POLICY. If you are not credentialed or not permitted to shoot in proximity to the court or field, do not violate those regulations. Doing so could result in ALL Phlox Photographers being banned from covering future events and could jeopardize your role with Phlox as well. Make sure you understand the boundaries. “Working Press” photographers have clearly published boundaries in each venue. If you are the designated “Team Photographer,” the coach or AD may allow you closer access to the players (e.g., in the players’ box).
Tips on Earning Credentials:
- Most schools are allowed to designate an official photographer for events. With the right school relationships, you should be able to position yourself as the photographer of choice.
- Work with the athletic department. Handy tip: The Athletic Secretary of your local school should become your BEST FRIEND! The school and athletic department may be in a position to offer you credentials for sideline / courtside access.
